SoNo DIG Chess Team

Thursday, December 6, 2018

Join the SoNo DIG Chess Team at the SoNo Branch Library!
This free, after-school chess club for youth ages 6 - 18 will meet weekly on Thursdays, 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., beginning September 27, 2018. Participants will be grouped by ability. The club is a partnership between the Norwalk Public Library's SoNo Branch and Team DIG USA. Coach Erin Strauts, who has played competitive chess since elementary school in Illinois and won the 2017 Hartford Open U1610 division, is eager to help chess players and budding chess players improve their fundamentals. And Coach Josh Taht, who is rated above 1700 and won the 2018 NY State Open U1610 division, will teach students about the lives of the best chess grandmasters and what we can learn from their games.
Team DIG USA's founder and Wilton Native, Dan Pelletier, is a renown chess and soccer player. This year one of his chessstudents was rated 833 and placed third in the U1200 division at the Bradley Open (Hartford, CT). He was featured in Connecticut Chess Magazine and called "Connecticut's Rising Chess Star". He went on to further compete and is now rated 1220.
The SoNo Library will kick-off this event with screenings of
Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) on Wednesday, October 3
Queen of Katwe (2016) on Wednesday, October 10

Both screenings will run 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pizza and popcorn will be provided.
These programs are free and open to the public.
