WATERCOLOR PAINTING FOR YOUTH: ENDANGERED SPECIES

Monday, October 24, 2022

QUESTION: What is an "Endangered Species"?

ANSWER:    An endangered species is an animal or plant that's considered at risk of extinction. Extinction is the state
or fact of being rendered nonexistent, physically unsound, or useless.  In the U.S. alone, there are 1675
endangered species. Species become endangered for two main reasons: loss of habitat and loss of genetic
variation.  We will also discuss extinction.

The Vicuna
The vicuna is special relative of the llama.  Llama's are raised for their coats.  Vicuñas produce small amounts of extremely fine wool,
which is very expensive because the animal can only be sheared every three years and has to be caught from the wild. When knitted
together, the product of the vicuña's wool is very soft and warm.
